From June 20 to July 10, 2022, the city of Verkhoyansk hosted the II Summer Scientific School «Young Researchers of Verkhoyansk» for students of the Verkhoyansky district, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Verkhoyansk Secondary School named after M.L. Novgorodov.

The school included thematic lectures, a project intensive, expeditions to field material collection, hands-on exercises, and scientific events. The Summer Scientific School was attended by a senior researcher from the of the International Research Laboratory «Linguistic Ecology Arctic» Alexander GRIGORIEV (head of the direction «Modern mathematics and Artificial Intelligence), junior researcher Svyatoslav FEDOROV (head of the field «Ethnography, Ethnology, and Anthropology») and Associate Researcher Svyatoslav Fedorov Researcher Roza Danilova (head of the department «Philology and sociolinguistics). In the direction of «Modern Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence,» the students were divided into teams and carried out projects in teams of 4-6 people. This due to the fact that IT projects are usually traditionally carried out through the interaction of a large number of people. Also the projects were chosen so that in the future each participant could build on their their own project. «For a deep understanding of the subject, building a simple neural network for predicting numbers is appropriate enough. In this way, the children learned the concept of mathematical model of a single neuron (perseptron), learned the different kinds of activation functions and their derivatives, and learned how to combine neurons into structures such as neural networks,» said Associate Professor of Research at the Institute of Mathematics and NEFU Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, a senior researcher at the International Scientific Linguistic Ecology of the Arctic research laboratory, Alexander Grigoriev. In the field of «Ethnography, ethnology and anthropology,» the participants took Theoretical course «Fieldwork in historical research», where the students mastered the techniques of making a questionnaire, interviewing and further stenography of the collected material. Each student had his or her own informant with whom they worked on their questionnaire. Schoolchildren learned the basics of making a plan-prospectus for scientific research, correct of setting goals and tasks, searching theoretical literature, analyzing practical material.
