The international conference “Real people in the 21st century: the language and culture of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic” was held October 11-12, 2022 on the basis of the Chukotka branch of NEFU, the objectives of which were to discuss the problems and prospects for studying the linguistic and cultural diversity of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic, to popularize and disseminate positive experience in preservation of the language and culture of indigenous peoples.

Within the framework of the conference, presentations of publications, projects, dictionaries, collections, websites and other sources on the preservation of the language of culture of indigenous peoples took place. The conference participants were anthropologists, linguists, ethnographers, folklorists, historians, Arctic researchers, representatives of state and public organizations, active indigenous people, traditions keepers, experts in the native language, employees of educational institutions, museums, research institutes and centers. Stepan Pavlov, junior researcher of the "Arctic Linguistic Ecology Laboratory" presented a report on the topic "Northernity, the Imaginary North or the Conceptual Sphere of the Arctic Discourse?". In 2022, the conference is aimed at discussing the issues of preserving the language, traditional culture and way of life of the few indigenous peoples living in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and in adjacent subarctic territories against the backdrop of changing social conditions. As a result of the conference, it is planned to publish a collection of scientific reports.
