From June 30 to July 10, 2022, young researchers of the International Scientific Research Laboratory “Linguistic Ecology of the Arctic” Stepan PAVLOV and Vasily ARGUNOV took part as tutors at the 14th International Research School in the village of Chapaevo, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Under the guidance of laboratory staff, high school students from different regions of the country went through all stages of research work: putting forward a hypothesis, setting goals and objectives, experimenting, processing the data obtained, defending the results in front of colleagues and experts. The School participants implemented the project “Development of amateur hiking and cycling routes along Khangalassky district”, aimed at promoting domestic tourism in Yakutia. During the presentation of the results of the project, the children noted that the most popular types of tourism are cycling and hiking. In this regard, the participants collected factual material on the history, sights and various locations of the Khangalas region and then created their own amateur route for cyclists and hikers. The end result of the project was a brochure for tourists called “Erkeeni Valley, visit the motherland of the Sakha ancestors” (“Erkeeni Valley, visit the homeland of the Sakha ancestors”), which covers all the necessary information when conducting a hiking trip: routes, attractions, accommodation, necessary equipment and various tips. “The International Research School is a unique opportunity to make friends with participants from different countries and regions, this is a valuable research experience for children. In our group, the most favorite part of the project, according to the participants, is the verification of the developed routes. The guys and I went on bike trips to nearby attractions, admired nature, took photos and just enjoyed the summer. The children were active and interested in Yakut history and culture,” says Stepan Pavlov, project leader, junior researcher at the Linguistic Ecology of the Arctic.
